Tales & Tails Story Time – Irvine Nature Center

Join us for a FREE story time & an animal encounter in the Outdoor Classroom (or indoors in inclement weather.) This ‘caregiver and child’ program will allow you to build connections with nature and your neighbors in an outdoor learning environment. Visitors are encouraged to come early or stay after to discover Irvine’s trails, meadows, and wetlands with the family. This program is ideal for children 5 and under and an accompanying adult.

Animal Art Class: Frog Focus! – Irvine Nature Center

To get the jump on world frog day (March 20th), join us as we celebrate our appreciation for these amazing amphibians with an art class! Learn to sketch and paint these charming creatures and take home your very own “tree cookie” masterpiece, perfect to use as a coaster or quirky decor around your home. This class intended for adults and teens age 13+. All levels of experience are encouraged to join– from newbie to seasoned artist. All are welcome. Cost is $15 per participant.

Easter Bluebird Training – Cromwell Valley Park

Want to become a citizen scientist? Interested in helping out our Eastern Bluebird population at the park? Learn how to identify common species of cavity nesting birds, how to safely observe and monitor adults and their young, and how to accurately report your observations. This is a long-term commitment program from April to November after a fun training session. $2 members/$4 non-members. Primitive Tech Lab. Open to ages 18+. Registration required for this event.

Make Your Own Leprechaun Garden – Oregon Ridge Nature Center

If you have a mind to try catch a leprechaun, this "Lucky" garden just might lure one in! Create a lucky windowsill garden to bring spring into your home. Open to adults and children 6+. This program is $12 per person ($10 for ORNCC Members). Registration for this program closes on Thursday, March 14th.

The Fine Art of the Paper Bag – Cromwell Valley Park

What better way to recycle those old newspapers than to make a paper bag with them! Join a Naturalist to learn the many uses of newspaper and how to use it in our everyday life. Afterwards we will head out in the park with our paper bags to go “shopping” for garlic mustard. $2 members/$4 non-members. Open to ages 5+ with an adult, both adults and children must register for this event.

Whose Scat is That!? – Lake Roland Nature Council

Whether you call it scat, dung, or droppings, all animals poop. What does deer scat look like? What about poop from a squirrel? Using playdough, you can make piles of scat for up to 3 animal species that you can take home with you.

Qigong & Tai Chi: Spring Sessions – Irvine Nature Center

Through Qigong and Tai Chi, participants will explore the ancient practices of moving meditation to align body, mind, and spirit and build a deeper connection to nature. In addition to learning and practicing these healing arts, we will also experience one or more additional components of the following: qigong forest bathing, qigong walks, mindfulness meditation, and focused breath work. The classes will begin in the tent or conference room, then transition to various beautiful locations throughout the Irvine campus. Open to age 18+. No prior experience needed. All are welcome. $15/participant.

St. Patrick’s Day Snakes – Oregon Ridge Nature Center

Legend has it that St. Patrick banished snakes from Ireland because they were evil. Discover just how important snakes are as we debunk this myth! Together we will explore the life of the snakes that call Oregon Ridge home and meet some of our resident snakes! Open to adults and children 4+. This program is $6 per person ($4 for ORNCC Members). Registration for this program closes on Thursday, March 14th.

The Emerald Isle – Cromwell Valley Park

The Isle gave us leprechauns, pots of gold and soda bread. Learn more about Ireland and help make soda bread in our Nature Center’s kitchen. $2 members/$4 non-members. Open to ages 6+ with an adult, both adults and children must register for this event.

Spring Trail Guide Training – Oregon Ridge Nature Center

The Nature Center is in need of volunteers to help with school field trips, Tuesday thru Friday, year-round. Volunteers lead small groups of students around the park for a hands-on nature experience! This season's topics include Creek to Stream to Bay and Reptiles and Amphibians. Open to adults. This program is free. Registration for this program closes on Sunday, March 17th.
